Melissa Rohrer  ~ Head Coach 

Coach Rohrer is thrilled to return for her second season as Head Coach for the Mt. Joy Lions Swim Team.
Coach Melissa Rohrer has also been the Head coach for the Men’s and Women’s Swim teams at
Elizabethtown College since September of 2018. Most recently this season, she led the Blue Jays to 7
new school records, numerous top 5 finishes at the Conference level, and program best finishes since
1997 for the Men’s team and since 2010 for the Women’s team. Before taking the Head coaching
position at Elizabethtown College, she was an assistant for 2 seasons for the Men’s and Women’s teams
at Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster. Before F&M, Rohrer was the head varsity and junior
varsity swim coach at Immaculate Heart High School in Los Angeles, California during the 2015-16 school
year. Prior to her time on the West Coast, she coached with the Rock Hill YMCA Rays in Rock Hill, South
Carolina (2015) and the Midtown Athletic Club in Bannockburn, Illinois (2014).

Rohrer (formerly Gates), a Leola, Pennsylvania native, was a three-time national champion and 10-time
NCAA DII All-American swimmer at California University of Pennsylvania. She won back-to-back national
titles in the 50-yard freestyle as a junior (2011) and senior (2012) and was the 2012 champion in the 100
freestyle. Her time of 22.62 in the 50 freestyle national championship race in 2012 was an NCAA Division
II record at the time. The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) named Rohrer its Swimmer of
the Year in 2012 and she continues to hold conference and conference championship records in the 50
freestyle, 100 freestyle and as a member of the Vulcans' 400 freestyle relay. She also established nine
school records (four individual, five relay). Rohrer received her bachelor's degree in environmental
science from California (Pa.) in 2012. She continued to swim competitively following graduation,
qualifying for the 2012 and 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials for the 50 and 100 freestyle.
Outside of the pool Coach Rohrer has a passion for horseback riding, skiing, camping, and hiking. She
lives with her husband, daughter Brinley, and 3 cats in Elizabethtown.
